Today's fun fact of the day is The Colossal Squid. It is also called The Antarctic Squid or The Giant Cranch Squid.


Name: The Colossal Squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni)

Conservation status: Least concern.

Lifespan: 2 years. They are fast growers.

What they eat: They eat small and large fishes and other squids.

Where they live: They live in deep waters. They are found in the Antarctic waters (southern ocean) and off the coasts of New Zealand.

Predator: Sperm Whales.

More Fun Facts: -They are the largest squid on the basis of its mass.

- This species have the largest eyes in the world. They have eye balls as big as a beachball.

- Their cousins are the Giant Squid

- The colossal squid is the only squid with hooks. There are other species of squid have hooks, but the colossal squid is the only one who uses them.

- The colossal squid is shorter in length, but heavier in mass.

- The Colossal squid’s eyes glow in the dark.
